Since we moved in, the bathroom has periodically produced some interesting smells. Not just when Mike uses it either... Every time it gets humid, it smelled like a mix of cat and mustiness. When we moved in, the light fixtures were hanging off the wall.

We replaced the light fixtures right away.
It always seemed like we had other projects that were more important. Finally we just had enough. The floor always looked and felt dirty and just wouldn't come clean. There were holes in the plaster and it all together looked dumpy. So the week before Christmas we decided that we'd had enough!
The toilet was screwed to the floor with drywall screws and there were 4 layers of vinyl. We took out three layers of subfloor after removing the vinyl to make sure we were completely rid of the smell. We ended up having to put on a new toilet flange because the cast iron flange was too high.
Here it is right after we took out the vanity. (Please excuse the blurry pictures)
Don't you love the lovely shade of green?
And after ripping up 4 layers of vinyl!!
And finally finished!
Squeaky clean and not smelly!
