Glasses

Mike and I found out early last week that our little man needed glasses. This made me very sad. It seems like it is a responsibility a toddler is just not yet meant to have. He is a little boy after all and he should be doing little boy things. Running and jumping and getting dirty. Not worrying about breaking his glasses. To me it seemed like a loss of independence.

Yesterday his glasses arrived and today we had them fitted. I was somewhat dreading this as I figured we would have to battle with him to get him to wear them. I couldn't believe his reaction though. He immediately recognized a difference and just stared at everything. For his whole life he has been unable to see anything close so it was exciting to watch him take it all in. It makes me wonder if that is the reason he is so timid and hesitant to stray very far. Or even his lack of interest in the TV. It really makes me wonder how much it has limited him.

Mike and I had NO idea that he ever had issues with his sight. We took him in because he blinked alot. I briefly mentioned it to his pediatrician and she recommended he be seen due to his early birth. Preemies are at risk for eye problems. I scheduled the appointment months ago and almost thought about cancelling it. I couldn't believe it when the Dr. said the he actually did need glasses and had we not caught it, he would eventually require a patch. He also said he may also grow out of it. We can only hope...

Here is our little man looking through his new window on the world. Isn't he cute?
